The Beijing Winter Olympics used a large number of venues for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Among the seven remodeled venues, the National Stadium is the second completed remodeled venue after the National Aquatics Center "Water Cube". In addition to the renovation of its main hall, the addition of ice-making functions and dehumidification systems, a new ice hockey hall on the north side as a training hall, and additional facilities such as changing rooms. After the game, each locker room unit can be disassembled into 8 independent cabinets or re-spliced into new rooms as needed, and the recycling rate can reach more than 95%.

Adhering to the concept of "hosting the Olympics in a green", the National Stadium will be renovated in accordance with the "two-star green building" standard. The extension part adopts the design of imitation ice glass bricks to fully introduce natural lighting. Through the external and internal shading systems, natural lighting is adjusted to minimize lighting energy consumption. At the same time, the indoor air purification function of the National Stadium will be added, and 90% of the space will have air purification capabilities, and sensors will be equipped to automatically adjust the fresh air, which fully reflects the sustainability of the building.

According to reports, the reconstructed ice surface of the National Stadium can not only meet the needs of competition time, but also can be converted into figure skating, short track speed skating and other items, which greatly improves the utilization rate of the ice rink. At the same time, the stadium has also realized the "amphibious" ability of winter and summer sports, and has the ability to switch between the ice rink and the summer event site.
