Aid to build Cambodian stadium, cable net tension completed successfully

  Entering the National Stadium of Cambodia, the on-site tensioning construction is in full swing. A giant steel cable with a length of up to 160 meters stretches around the stadium like a giant dragon. Two herringbone towers with a height of 99 meters are pulled up by 18 diagonal cables at one end, and 8 back cables are connected at the other end. A total of 1100 steel cables together with the cable truss lift the grandstand. Looking from the sky, it looks like a sky umbrella is hollowed out in the middle, and then gently lifted by two harps. The overall structure is magnificent and beautiful. At present, the stretching construction of the stadium shed cable net has been successfully completed.

  The stadium stand canopy adopts a new type of cable tension structure-cable-stayed-cable truss tension structure, which introduces the role of cable stays in the more common cable truss structure system.

  The cable truss is like a "big umbrella" with light weight and high rigidity. The stay cable and two herringbone hanging towers are like two "harps" in the air, which can achieve a larger span. The structure combination of "Big Umbrella + Harp" represents the highest level of spatial structure technology development in the world today, and also the biggest difficulty of the project.

Three technical difficulties:

1. The entire cable net, ring beam and pendant tower form an overall force system, and the structure force transmission path is complicated;

2. One end of the stay cable is fixed to the flexible structure (ring cable), and the shape of the ring cable changes continuously during the construction of the cable net, causing the force of the stay cable that the suspension tower bears to change continuously throughout the construction process;

3. Because of the existence of the diagonal cable, the balance force at the connection node of the ring cable is too large, and the requirements for the cable clamp, the brace rod, the screw rod and other components are very high.

Aiming at the above three points, some solutions are targeted:

  1. Study and formulate a reasonable cable lifting and tensioning plan, determine a reasonable construction process, and ensure that the structure is always in a safe state during construction through simulation and analysis of the whole process of construction. And design the most feasible construction plan from the aspects of construction safety, cost, construction period and so on.

  2. During the tensioning process, the displacement of the top of the main tower and the lifting of the cable are controlled synchronously. Through the use of finite element software, CCRI conducted simulation and construction monitoring of the whole process of forming the main tower and cable net during the tension process.

  3. The key nodes of the cable system have been deepened in a targeted manner. Through the BIM technology three-dimensional solid lofting and finite element calculation and analysis, to ensure the needs of the construction structure and meet the safety of the nodes.

  The Cambodian National Stadium is the largest and highest-ranking stadium built by the Chinese government to date, and it is a comprehensive multi-functional venue. After completion, it will serve as the main stadium for the Southeast Asian Games in 2023, and will also serve as the center for Phnom Penh’s citizens’ fitness. .
