The dome of the wind and rain playground of Shanghai University of Engineering Science is a single-layer hyperbolic reticulated shell structure, 50m wide, 100m long and 18m high. The whole roof is a reticulated shell structure with a rich sense of rhythm. The overall emphasis gives the building a sense of unity and makes people feel the large-span structural form directly. And the rationality of the lattice and reticulated shell structure expressed the mechanical beauty of the structure. Shape two slightly raised, curved shape, make the overall structure more beautiful and elegant. The single-layer steel mesh shell structure fully demonstrates the charm of the structure, especially under the sunlight, the shadow of the steel mesh falls on the wall or ground of the building to form stripes, which adds a dreamlike beauty. The lattice shell roof is divided into parallelograms according to the corresponding axis, and the rods are divided into a number of triangles in each parallelogram grid, so that the internal force distribution on the surface of each lattice shell beam will be roughly the same, and it is more stable in the case of large span.

The roof of the project adopts transparent ETFE (soft glass) film material, which is a semi-open public activity space such as the wind and rain playground, where various sports activities will take place. Under the shelter of the large roof, the overall space feels very good. ETFE membrane roof highlights the structure itself, at the same time, the roof can be illuminated to facilitate indoor activities, both wind and rain, and there is plenty of light, providing great convenience for indoor sports activities, and the entire roof coverage is lighter and more transparent. The white of the surrounding building walls and the light from the roof blend together to form an activity space where people are willing to stay and move, and the atmosphere is excellent.

With the continued development of architectural design software and the further development of construction technology, the reticulated shell structure will become one of the mainstream, which is more in line with the concept of new design and closer to the nature of computer thinking. Moreover, under such a large-span dome, a column-free space is created by choosing a reticulated shell structure, so that the function of the wind and rain playground is more complete, without the interference of the column, and the entire building is more beautiful and atmospheric.
