As the largest high-speed rail hub in western China, Chongqing East Railway Station stands as a national super-large integrated transportation hub featuring "four-network integration" and ranks among the four major passenger terminals in Chongqing. Adhering to the core concept of "Mountains and Rivers Stretching Thousands of Miles, Ficus Virens Towering Skyward", it condenses Chongqing's landscape context and regional culture into architectural expressions, emerging as a hub of the national "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network and a new landmark of Bayu culture. It plays a pivotal role in serving national strategies such as the Chengdu-Chongqing Dual-City Economic Circle and the Western Land-Sea New Corridor, as well as constructing Chongqing's "rice-shaped" high-speed rail network.
Leveraging its extensive project implementation experience and diverse professional technologies, Zhejiang Wanhao selected ETFE membrane as the primary material for the roof structure of this project. ETFE membrane boasts a series of superior properties, which have exerted a crucial impact on the construction of Chongqing East Railway Station. Firstly, its lightweight attribute is noteworthy, with a weight merely 1% of that of glass skylights of equivalent area. The tree-shaped columns of Chongqing East Railway Station are themselves the world's first ultra-high, ultra-large multi-curved tree-shaped columns, with the tallest reaching 41 meters, a trumpet-shaped front facade, and a maximum "crown width" of 29.6 meters. The lightweight nature of the ETFE membrane has significantly alleviated the load-bearing burden on the tree-shaped columns, ensuring the stability and safety of the entire structure. Secondly, high light transmittance constitutes another major advantage of the ETFE membrane. At Chongqing East Railway Station, the membrane-structured skylights enable ample natural light to cascade in, fostering a bright and translucent interior environment within the station and enhancing passengers' travel experience. The project also involves 2,200 tons of steel for secondary steel structures.
Since its commissioning, Chongqing East Railway Station, with its advanced design and exceptional functionality, has become a new hallmark in Chongqing's transportation sector, infused new vitality into urban development, and propelled the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Dual-City Economic Circle and the Western Land-Sea New Corridor to new heights.
