Etfe-Lightweight and Transparent House/Wall System

ETFE Membrane: DuPont of the United States and Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. of Japan have successively developed TEFZEL® and COP® series ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer resin products since the 1970s. Ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer is often referred to as tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE-ethyl tetra fluoro ethylene). ETFE is by far the strongest fluoroplastic. While maintaining the good heat resistance, chemical resistance, and electrical insulation properties of PTFE, its radiation resistance, mechanical properties, and processing properties have been greatly improved.

Since the 1990s, architect Nicholas Greenshaw innovatively applied ETFE membranes to the Eden Project in the UK on a large scale, this material has been recognized by many architects, and its architectural uses Growing up.

ETFE membrane architecture is particularly suitable for stadiums, botanical garden greenhouses, building atriums, etc., which have high requirements for natural light, as a covering material for roofs or walls. Generally, it can be used in a single layer or a multi-layer air pillow type (refers to a system similar to the curtain wall formed by filling the air between the multi-layer ETFE film and the corresponding metal keel, which does not bear the load of the main structure itself .)

Advantages of ETFE membrane wall/roof

1. Lightweight and high strength-The density of ETFE is 1.73~1.77g/cm3, the weight of ETFE film per unit area is extremely light, only 1% of the glass mass of the same area, which can greatly reduce the load of the main structure, especially suitable for large span structure. The ETFE film has good toughness, high tensile strength, and is not easy to be torn. According to the test, the tensile strength of the 0.2mm film can reach 500 N/5cm, and the tensile strength can reach about 1200 N/5cm, which is close to twice that of PTFE.

2. Strong weather resistance and the chemical resistance-its service life is estimated to be up to 30 years.

3. Good fire safety-ETFE melting temperature is up to 200℃, and it will not spontaneously ignite.

4. The high visible light transmittance-ETFE film has a visible light transmittance of up to 95%. At the same time, it can control the transparency of the film through screen printing plating points, adjust the shading degree and light transmittance, and effectively use natural light; if it is used ETFE air pillow can also play the role of thermal insulation and energy-saving by controlling the amount of inflation and even the type of gas.

5. Excellent self-cleaning function-dust is not easy to be adsorbed on its surface, and its cleaning cycle is said to be about 5 years.

6. The good adaptability-ETFE film can be processed into almost any size and shape.

7. The ETFE air pillow can be prefabricated, assembled and inflated on-site, without wet operation, and convenient for construction and maintenance.

8. The comprehensive cost has certain competitiveness compared with the traditional glass wall roof.
