As one of the six key initiatives for a China - Serbia community with a shared future, the Serbian National Exhibition Center project is quickly taking shape in Belgrade's Surčin district. It reflects Serbia's ambition to be a regional exhibition and convention center. After completion, it will be a top platform for international trade fairs in Southeast Europe and host the 2027 Belgrade World Exposition, attracting participants from 120 countries and over 4 million visitors. Thus, it will become an important hub for Eurasian economic, trade, and cultural exchanges.

Modern architecture created with traditional techniques
Since the project started in 2024, it endured two harsh winters and entered the decisive final phase in 2026. Its design combines Serbian traditional weaving techniques with modern architectural technology, with a multi - layer ETFE membrane structure on the roof. This "soft glass" material, which weighs only 1% of glass per square meter, can withstand typhoon - force winds, has good light transmission and intelligent regulatory capabilities. It reduces air - conditioning costs in summer and maximizes solar heating in winter. Moreover, it has a much lower carbon footprint over its lifespan than glass facades, embodying the "green convention center" concept.

Advance in multiple areas and strive for excellence.
Entering the construction site, one sees intense activity. In the administrative building area, the steel structure is completed and membrane material installation on the roof's “smart skin” has started. Work on the secondary steel structure in areas like the B7 corridor has also begun. As the final phase starts, different teams coordinate efficiently via daily pre - shift technical meetings and progress adjustments.

Crafting Dreams with Expertise, Anticipating Completion: A New China-Serbia Friendship Chapter
From winter steel - structure assembly and welding to spring membrane tensioning, and from coordinating cross - border resources to ensuring European - standard compliance, the builders of the Serbia National Exhibition Center dedicated over two years. They showed the deep foundation of China - Serbia practical cooperation. This venue, combining traditional artistry and modern technology, will drive the Southeast European exhibition economy and symbolize China - Serbia shared destiny and collaborative development.

Let's look forward to 2027 when this “breathing building” debuts. It will welcome global guests openly and inclusively, and usher in a new era of cultural exchange and economic cooperation on the Balkan Peninsula!
