Yinkeng Village can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty. It is an old village with a history of several hundred years that was naturally formed by the sea. In 2018, the Zhuhai Municipal Government started the demolition work of Yinkeng Village, planning to build a municipal cultural and artistic center here. MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong, participated in the international design competition for Zhuhai Culture and Art Center, and proposed the "Village under the Dome".
The original appearance of Yinkeng Village
MAD envisions a floating dome that gathers spaces with a sense of stacking and small scale. Various large-scale and complex functional requirements of the Cultural and Art Center have been reorganized, arranged in accordance with the original village streets, topography and layout, and reproduced in the form of scattered small-scale buildings and blocks. Create a sense of community on the basis of existing protective demolition.
The dome is a preservation of the past and an imagination of the future. The highest point of the dome is 45 meters, and the main arch and cable membrane structure are used to ensure its stability. The dome is composed of a translucent membrane material, like a misty dome floating above the village, blending with the sky, interspersed with reality.
