Located in the new city of Lusail, 20km from the centre of Doha, the Lusail Stadium is inspired by the interlocking patterns of light and shadow in the traditional Arab Fanar Lantern. The shape and facade of the court echo the intricate decorations on the traditional Qatari golden bowls and other utensils that are prominent features of the golden Age of art and craft in the Arab and Islamic world.

"Norman Foster, the principal architect of the Lussel Course, carefully studied hand-carved Islamic artefacts and incorporated a gold vessel and traditional Arab lanterns into the design of the course, which resulted in the magnificent course we see today," the stadium manager said.

Fans can take the Doha Metro's Red Line and get off at Lusail QNB station to get to the stadium. Fans who choose to drive can reach the stadium from the Al Khor highway. There will also be many parks and rides near the course. After 2022, people will be able to reach it by the Lusail Light Rail Tram.

After the Qatar World Cup, the Lussel Stadium will become a community centre containing civic facilities such as housing, shops, food and drink outlets, clinics and schools. The stadium's upper stands will be repurposing as balconies for the new rooms. The seats and other court materials will be donated to communities that lack sports infrastructure.

Sustainability is a very important part of the construction process of the Lussel Stadium. These sustainable construction methods have earned Lussel a five-star rating for design, construction and construction under the Global Sustainability Assessment System. The most significant sustainable feature is the stadium's roof, which is made of state-of-the-art PTFE film to protect the stadium from warm winds, prevent dust from coming in, provide adequate light to the pitch, and provide shade to reduce the burden on the stadium's air conditioning and cooling system.

Sustainable construction methods and a waste water recovery system are another sustainable measure used in the construction of the Lussel course, which uses 40% less industrial water than conventional course construction. The recycled water is used to irrigate the surrounding plants. The Lusel stadium construction project is managed by TiME Qatar.

The Lusel Stadium is a joint venture between Qatar's HBK and China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) as the project's general contractor. The design was completed in cooperation with an international team composed of design agencies including Aurecon of Australia and AFL of Britain, among which BIAD undertook the design task of the most complex system of the whole stadium -- the main steel structure and the cable membrane structure of the roof.
