International Museum Day View MAD Museum
1. Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Los Angeles, USA
Located at the gateway to Los Angeles' Exposition Park, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is currently undergoing curtain wall installation and is gradually integrated into the landscape of the 4.45-hectare campus. MAD created an open new urban public space at ground level by raising the central space of the ground floor. In September 2022, the museum officially unveiled its collection for the first time, which includes ancient Roman mosaics, Renaissance paintings and contemporary photography.
2. Fenix Immigration Museum Rotterdam, Netherlands
Under construction
MAD transformed a warehouse in the harbor into an important place to continue history and foster a new culture. The renovation and design retain the building's signature surface green steel Windows and internal concrete main structure, with soaring silver stairs and seabird sculptures to bring a new look to Fenix, Fenix warehouse as an urban public space for the public to enjoy the cityscape and learn about Rotterdam's immigration history.
3. Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza, Shenzhen, China
Under construction
"Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza" includes creative design Pavilion and Shenzhen Science and Life Pavilion. It establishes a natural connection between Shenzhen Bay Park and the city without breaking the original urban planning, and maximizes the space and culture to the city and its citizens. The pavilion building inspired by the "seaside original stone" and the undulating urban green space juxtapose the two time scales of "ancient" and "future" to create a surreal landscape of the earth and a place for human life interaction.
4. Hainan Science and Technology Museum, Haikou, China
Under construction
MAD's design combines the urban character of Hainan, the environmental conditions of the site and the vision of the science museum to create a "pristine rainforest meets future technology" situation. The main pavilion is shaped like auspicious clouds, and the natural dialogue with heaven and earth; The corridor extending from the main exhibition hall provides a new type of urban public space; The rich diversity of rainforests creates the overall landscape.
5. Jiaxing Civic Center, Jiaxing, China
Under construction
Jiaxing Civic Center includes three venues: Science and Technology Hall, women and children's Activity Center and youth activity center. MAD designed a landscape building in a park to provide a place for daily and weekend activities. With the central circular lawn as the center, people and buildings interact and share here, which becomes a more open, friendly and dynamic new urban space. The three venues are "hand in hand" connected by a circular roof.
6. Ordos Museum, Ordos, China
Have been built
MAD envisions a futuristic abstract shell that isolates the inside from the outside while providing a kind of protection for the cultural and historical fragments within, against the unknown new urban planning surrounding it. The museum floats on the undulating square like sand dunes, where citizens play, relax and look out; Even before the museum was finished, it had become a favorite gathering place for the public, children and families.
7. China Wood Carving Museum, Harbin, China
Have been built
The museum is about 200 meters long, like a torrent of ice and snow, frozen on a narrow foundation in the center of the city. Inspired by the unique nature of Northland, the 13,000-square-meter museum is chaotic and abstract in shape, blurring the line between solid and liquid in search of "plausible" signs of life. The museum's collection includes local wood carvings and paintings of northern snow and ice, while the building is also a re-interpretation of nature.
8. Sanxingdui Museum, Guanghan, China
Conceptual scheme
The design uses a group of shuttle-shaped wooden structure buildings scattered from east to west to form a new earth landscape with the original landscape. On the one hand, it reveals the mystery of the ancient future similar to the relics of Sanxingdui. On the other hand, it connects with nature with its controlled volume and posture, making the park an urban and cultural public space where humanity meets nature, history meets future.
9. Pingtan Art Museum Pingtan, China
Conceptual scheme
The museum building itself is like an island within an island that is ready to drift away, connecting the mainland by a slightly unrolling trestle, connecting the artificial and the natural, the city and the culture, the history and the future. Before becoming a museum, the island first became a public space. It is also an enduring landscape in the water, retelling the island's ancient birth.
