Barbados National Park's Flyfish Plaza (Caribbean, near South America) completed ETFE cable membrane dome canopy installation. As Rihanna’s hometown, its canopy blending island culture and Chinese spatial structural technology will be a key regional landmark, marking another successful overseas tropical island application by Zhejiang Wanhao Group.

The project is in Barbados, the "Land of Flying Fish." Its host national park, a key local urban public cultural space, will hold festival performances, community gatherings and cultural-tourism events. The flying-fish-inspired large-span ETFE cable membrane canopy offers shade, rain protection, natural lighting and acoustic optimization, suits the island’s high-temperature, high-humidity, strong-sea-breeze climate, and will become a new urban landmark in South America’s Caribbean region.

As a long-distance offshore project, it faced many overseas transport challenges. Components, rigging and ETFE membrane materialswere batch ocean-freighted to Barbados. The team prepared packaging protection, maritime securing, and moisture- and salt-spray-resistant solutions, tracked full logistics, strictly controlled transport risks, ensuring steel structural components and high-precision ETFE membranes arrived site intact to lay a solid foundation for subsequent installation.

On site, steel structure installation moved forward. After main steel framework assembly, work shifted to membrane installation, with ETFE cable membrane installation as the project core. The prototype membrane’s successful tensioning marks a critical sky canopy construction phase. Lightweight, transparent, UV-resistant, self-cleaning ETFE suits Caribbean island environments. The on-site team managed deployment, alignment, tensioning via real-time monitoring to ensure uniform membrane stress and smooth curvature; the transparent ETFE surface in sunlight showcases the structure’s lightweight aesthetic.

From architectural design, ocean transport, steel hoisting to membrane tensioning, the project team overcame overseas construction coordination, tropical climate and ocean logistics hurdles to bring mature ETFE cable-membrane technology to the Caribbean and South America. This marks another milestone in Wanhao’s global expansion of spatial structural technology: its steel-and-membrane work has created a fluid Atlantic-coast skyline. We look forward to the sky canopy’s successful completion, as flying fish chase waves and the Wanhao project shines across the Caribbean.
