Recently, Mali’s Bamako MODIBO KEITA Comprehensive Stadium project hit a critical milestone: steel component batches loaded, containers shipped to the city. This marks the official start of on-site work for this Sino-African cooperative sports infrastructure project.

Located in Mali’s capital Bamako, this national comprehensive stadium seats 35,000 and is Mali’s national team home. As a renovation and upgrade covering roof steel structure and PTFE membrane, built to World Athletics and FIFA standards, it will host Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and large cultural and sports events after completion. It is Mali’s new urban sports landmark, a key "Belt and Road" China-Africa infrastructure cooperation project, embodying both countries’ shared development vision.

Since project launch, the company’s production base carried out steel structure detailing and fabrication. Its large-span spatial steel roof has diverse, complex components requiring strict machining precision. The technical team optimized drawings, followed international engineering standards, and enforced full-process quality control over raw material inspection, cutting, welding, coating and dimensional checks. Workshop teams worked overtime to finish fabrication, pre-assembly, rust removal and anti-corrosion. Each component passed multiple pre-delivery checks, ensuring accurate dimensions, qualified coating, and fit for ocean freight and on-site installation. After coordinated effort, the first batch of qualified steel components was packed and shipped on schedule.

Overseas projects face many challenges. For this West Africa project, long shipping cycles require coordinated cross-border logistics, component protection and customs clearance; on-site resources are limited, with key difficulties including extreme heat, local material supply and cross-language multi-party collaboration. The first steel structure batch dispatch marks a new project milestone. Subsequent components will be delivered to the Bamako site, where the overseas team will carry out hoisting, splicing, alignment and welding. After main steel structure installation, the PTFE membrane roof will be laid to complete the venue upgrade. The project team will manage safety, quality and schedule, overcome West African site challenges, advance high-standard installation, and steadily deliver the project.

Steel structures go overseas, craftsmanship builds dreams. The MODIBO KEITA Comprehensive Stadium Project in Bamako, Mali, is another exemplary case of the company’s overseas steel membrane structure market operations. Covering detailed design, factory manufacturing, ocean shipping and on-site installation, the team delivers high-quality Chinese steel structure products to Africa with solid technical expertise and rigorous contract performance. Going forward, project staff will coordinate to advance production, shipment and on-site construction of subsequent component batches, build the West African sports landmark and deepen China-Africa infrastructure cooperation.
