The garden of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in London provides a place for patients and volunteers to relax and walk. Horatio's garden charity designed and built a rest house to help people recover from spinal cord injury.
The rest space is composed of a wooden atrium combined with a glass-opened roof. Its diamond-shaped opening not only provides a waterproof effect, but also provides natural light, allowing the patient to bathe in natural sunlight.
Over time, the glass openings have gradually begun to leak, and recently, these openings had to be rectified.
The new Ferrari STFE50 membrane material is stretched and covered on the roof, replacing the original glass part of the entire roof. Without affecting the wooden structure or the roof opening structure, the solution ensures the permeability of the outward view and the waterproofing of the building, which not only ensures natural lighting, but also avoids the feeling of confinement and depression.
Architect Stephen Marshall collaborated with landscape designer Tom Stuart Smith to divide the garden into two garden areas, while providing shelter and shade-garden cubes and garden rooms. The patient is in it and can enjoy the garden planting, water and sky to the maximum. The well-designed color shutters not only play a decorative role but also protect privacy.
The entire roof renovation work was completed in just a few days.
STFE membrane material is a new type membrane material recently launched by Ferrari Technical Textile Industry Group. It has high strength and can be stretched in a large area, 100% waterproof, and light transmittance of more than 50%, which can be used instead of glass.
