Since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, Sinovac, a well-known vaccine research and development company, has provided more than 2 billion doses of vaccines to the world, but its vaccine research and development and production space has been in severe shortage. In this context, China Architectural Design and Research Institute played the responsibilities of a central enterprise, actively responded, and reached a strategic cooperation with Kexing Group.

The multi-professional technical team in the hospital, led by the chief architect, Academician Cui Kai, undertook the design work for the renovation of Tianfu factory area, Kaixin factory area, biological vaccine quality research center and other projects, and provided efficient and fast solutions to meet the needs. Some projects have been put into use.

The renovation of Kexing Tianfu factory has been put into use

The Kexing Tianfu Vaccine Plant in Daxing, a southern suburb of Beijing, was transformed from an existing industrial plant. The density of the factory area is high, and there is not much open space. Vaccine production runs around the clock, and the workshop implements a 24-hour work system. All employees eat in a centralized canteen open 24 hours a day in the southeast corner of the factory. The employees who dine are constantly flowing in the wind and rain.

From this, we thought, whether it is possible to carry out the upgrading and transformation of local light intervention on the premise of not having too much impact on the surrounding production and offices, so as to provide a shelter for employees to shelter from the wind and rain in the sunken courtyard that leads to the cafeteria. , Semi-outdoor leisure activities?

In order to achieve a short construction period, less on-site operations, and less interference, we decided to use a fabricated light metal + membrane structure to design a set of modular devices to intervene in the now slightly negative space gaps.

The basic geometry comes from the spherical arch that symbolizes the cell. In order to make the spherical arch "embedded" in the remaining space of the straight line boundary, the arch is cut equilaterally at 60 degrees on the projection surface to obtain a modular prototype. The slender stainless steel string column + stainless steel round tube arch beam form the main structure, and the aluminum alloy rod of the triangular unit forms the secondary structure, which is covered with ETFE transparent tension film.

This prototype can be combined, assembled and spread in various remaining spaces... From design to construction, in a total of more than 100 days, we have obtained an elegant, delicate and crystal clear semi-outdoor palace.

As a highly adaptable system, this intervention can also play a role in the upgrading and transformation of many existing factories in Kexing in the future, and then become a spatial clue, an iconic place, and a symbol of the brand, which will be scattered around Beijing.
