Lotus Hotel is located in Xiangsha Bay, Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia, China.
As the key structure generation concept, the traditional Chinese concept of "array" plays a great role in the design, and "array" usually refers to orderly and stable repetition.
The logic generated by the lotus form is derived from the simple equiangular rotation of the square. The process of rotation also forms a series of triangles. The rotation of this simple geometry enhances the building's sense of strength.
Taking into account the structure, sunlight and wind and sand, the shape of a lotus flower is generated by integrating function, form and landscape. Lotus is also deeply rooted in the concept of traditional Chinese culture and philosophy, bringing tourists a nostalgic feeling in the vast desert.
In order to make a building that conforms to the geological environment in the desert, a new structural system has been developed. The quicksand is fixed with a specific steel plate, which is like a unique foundation foundation like a pontoon in the sand sea. The foundation is balanced under the balanced force of the sand. At the same time, the use of light steel structure reduces the pressure on the foundation.
Due to the lack of building materials and experienced workers in the area, a kind of sand widely used locally is specially customized as a decorative material, which not only reduces the investment, but also reduces the carbon emissions in the project and the continuous consumption in the future, because this It is possible to reuse the local sand resources.
The total area of the hotel is 30,700 square meters, but it will not produce imagined greenhouse gas emissions. Instead of high-tech equipment, such as photovoltaic tubes, solar cells, etc., carbon emissions are reduced in the most primitive way.
For example, the membrane structure is not only a visual landscape, but also plays the role of indoor shading. It is estimated that the cooling system can reduce carbon emissions and electricity consumption.
In a similar way, the building has a lower energy consumption than the comfort brought by the use of technology. The form of the lotus is derived from the form of the sand dunes in the vast desert, taking into account factors related to desertification, sun exposure, wind loads and rainwater harvesting.
