Various types of membrane architecture have very different degrees of difficulty in force analysis, design structure, production and installation, and their applications are also different, but they have the following common characteristics:
(1) Lightweight:
When constructing large-scale public buildings, it has better cost performance. The membrane structure used in the large-span structure is one or several orders of magnitude lighter than the traditional structure, and the structural weight and cost per unit area will not increase significantly with the increase of the span.
(2) Beautiful shape and full of contemporary flavor:
Membrane structure breaks through the traditional architectural structure form, easy to be made into various shapes, and rich in colors, easy to form a night scene under the cooperation of light, giving people the enjoyment of modern beauty. Because of its technological advancement, membrane structure is known as the high-tech of modern architecture, and it is the architecture of the 21st century.
(3) Reduce energy consumption:
The membrane construction itself has good light transmittance, with a light transmittance of about 7% to 20%, which can make full use of natural light, and does not require artificial lighting during the day, which can fully meet the needs of various sports games and other activities; membrane materials The refractive index of light is above 70%. Under sunlight, soft astigmatism is formed indoors, giving people a comfortable and dreamlike feeling.
(4) Fast construction speed:
The cutting and production of the diaphragm, the steel cable, and the steel structure are all completed in the factory, which can be carried out at the same time with the lower reinforced concrete structure or components, etc., at the construction site, only the connection, installation, positioning and tensioning of the steel cable, the steel structure and the diaphragm Therefore, the on-site construction and installation are more civilized, fast and efficient.

(5) Obvious economic benefits:
Although a membrane structure construction project currently has a slightly larger investment, the daily maintenance cost of this type of structure is very small (called "maintenance-free structure"), so in the long run, the economic effect is very obvious. If this type of structure is used in a super-span building, it will have a more prominent price advantage. The economic advantage of the cable-membrane structure is proportional to the space span and technical difficulty.
(6) Safe and reliable use:
Its weight is light and its seismic performance is relatively good: the membrane structure is a flexible structure, which can withstand large displacements and is not easy to collapse as a whole; and the membrane materials are generally flame-retardant materials, and they are not easy to cause a fire.
(7) Easy to make a detachable structure:
It is easy to transport and can be used for touring performances, exhibitions, etc.: For example, a music canopy designed and produced by a company in the United States covers an area of more than 300 square meters, and its disassembly and installation only takes less than 6 hours.
(8) Membrane construction design has a wide range of applications:
From the perspective of climatic conditions, it is suitable for a vast area from Alaska to Saudi Arabia: in terms of scale, it can be as small as single tents and garden sketches, as large as buildings covering tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of square meters. Some people even imagined covering a small city to realize man-made nature.
