Wanhao Group won the contract for the steel membrane structure project of Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Kenya with its technical expertise, overseas project experience and integrated steel membrane production-construction capabilities. After constructing multiple African national sports venues, Wanhao expands its presence in East Africa, contributes to China-Africa infrastructure cooperation and builds a new flagship modern sports facility project in the region.

After renovation and expansion, the venue will expand seating capacity to meet FIFA and CAF event standards, and can host international athletics competitions, football leagues and large-scale public events. As a core component of the venue upgrade, the newly added PTFE steel membrane roof needs to withstand extreme diurnal temperature variations and intense ultraviolet radiation in the East African highlands, while meeting requirements of large-span design, long-term durability and aesthetic appeal. These conditions raise high requirements for the project's design, materials, fabrication and on-site construction.

To this end, the project team selected high-strength PTFE membrane material. Its self-cleaning properties and weather resistance resist intense ultraviolet radiation and ensure long-term color stability. To solve large-span structure challenges, the team optimized the steel cable joint design via computer-aided simulation, balancing load distribution and lightweight structure. During construction, modular prefabrication and high-altitude assembly were adopted to shorten the duration and reduce work risks. The completed roof improves spectator experience, serves as a modern architectural landmark integrating functionality and regional character, and demonstrates the international standard of Kenya's sports infrastructure.

With rich international market experience, Wanhao Group has completed many large-scale complex spatial structure projects in Uganda, Mali, Serbia and other countries, continuously showcasing China's steel membrane construction technology. The delivery of Kipchoge Keino Stadium project marks another major breakthrough of Wanhao in the East African market.
