As a vital economic and transportation hub in the Balkans, Serbia has seen steady economic growth and a thriving exhibition industry in recent years—now, it’s turning to cutting-edge architectural designs to fuel further development. The upcoming Serbia Convention and Exhibition Center, highlighted by an innovative ETFE membrane structure, is poised to reshape the nation’s architectural identity, with the membrane portion of the project covering a total area of 60,000 square meters.

ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) boasts a suite of outstanding properties that make it a top choice for modern architecture. It is lightweight yet highly durable, with strong tensile strength to withstand extreme weather conditions. Its superior light transmission minimizes the need for artificial lighting, lowering energy expenses, while its UV-resistant feature guarantees long-term reliability. What’s more, ETFE is easy to maintain and fully recyclable, perfectly aligning with global sustainability initiatives.

The versatility of ETFE membrane structures extends far beyond exhibition centers. They are also widely used in tensile roof systems, fabric roof structures, and air-supported structures—all scenarios where visual appeal, practical functionality, and environmental friendliness are key priorities. For Serbia, this convention center project marks a pivotal shift toward modernizing its infrastructure. As the country ramps up investment in tourism and business events, the ETFE roof will boost the venue’s attractiveness, drawing in international exhibitors and attendees. Additionally, it will pave the way for broader adoption of tension fabric technology in public buildings, driving innovation in the local construction sector and spurring economic growth.

Upon completion of its renovation, the Serbia Convention and Exhibition Center will rank among the larger and more advanced comprehensive exhibition venues in Southeast Europe. Wanhao will assemble a top-tier team to construct this influential international exhibition center, making valuable contributions to Serbia’s urban development and economic progress.
