The design of this membrane shade canopy was inspired by the sandwaves created by racing cars and the patterns formed by the movement of the wind. It utilizes high-strength PTFE membrane material and spatial steel structures to create dynamic surfaces that resemble the undulating shapes of sand dunes, showcasing a visual tension between softness and rigidity.

The properties of this PTFE membrane material combine functionality with aesthetics: during the day, sunlight passes through it, creating a soft, diffused light that prevents glare on the racing track; at night, the light transmitted through the membrane outlines a lightweight, dreamlike silhouette. At the Shengzhou BYD Racing Track, a “sky-reaching sand slope” over 30 meters in height rises into the air. This structure, with its membrane-based large canopy, combines materials science with visual design, representing BYD’s vision of technological innovation in reality.

The construction of the dry sand slope observation deck at the BYD Racing Track in Shengzhou, Shaoxing, which was undertaken by Wanhao, is nearing completion. The construction of the spatial steel structure and the membrane structure has been essentially finished.This membrane structure building, which carries the weight of technology with its lightweight space frame structure and tells the story of Chinese brand innovation through the beauty of fluidity, is now ready to take action.

Membrane structure and steel canopy frame ceilings combine functionality with artistry in a way that is characterized by being lightweight, dynamic, and aesthetically pleasing. They not only provide the practicality of protecting against wind and rain but also create an immersive experience through their unique layers of light and shadow.
