The stadium's tensile roof is made of PTFE membrane structure, allowing natural daylight to filter through the gentle canopy and scatter into the interior, weaving a rich layering of light and shadow effects. The translucent material properties cleverly dissipate the sense of oppression that might come with a massive volume, and the boundary that meets the sky fades into the mist, making the whole tensile membrane structure appear lighter and more ethereal, as if breathing in harmony with the air, endowing the building with a unique transparent vitality.

Wanhao is mainly responsible for the construction of the tensile fabric canopy for this project which a total construction area of about 137,000 square meters. It includes a standard 33,000-seat Class B medium-sized stadium, which is equipped with 9 lanes of 400-meter international standard track, a natural grass sports field, and a standard swimming pool.

PTFE membrane structures combine high strength, durability, self-cleaning properties, light transmission and energy saving, fire safety, and design freedom into one, making it a high-performance membrane material in building architecture. It is particularly suitable for large public building projects that have high requirements for aesthetic appeal, service life, and environmental adaptability.

In response to the high energy consumption of sports venues, the design of Xiangyang Sports Center adopts an "passive priority, active optimization" energy-saving strategy, achieving low-carbon, low-energy, and low-water construction goals. The design team through simulated fabric roofing systems and continuously optimized the design scheme, ultimately achieving an overall energy saving rate of more than 78% for the entire stadium.
